About Doug Barry

Doug Barry was born in Baltimore, raised in Lutherville in Baltimore County, and has been a Baltimore City resident since 2007. Other than 4 and a half years serving in the U.S. Army, he has lived in the area his entire life. With grandparents that lived near the border of Roland Park and Hampden, and another grandmother that lived in Remington and later Medfield, he has spent much of his life in the district from the day he was born.

After graduating from Towson State University with a B.S. in History, he entered the Army, and attended the prestigious Defense Language Institute at the Presidio of Monterey, California. He graduated with honors from the year-long Russian course, and was the honor graduate in the subsequent Military Intelligence training course. Doug served in Army Intelligence in both tactical and strategic assignments in Japan and Fort Hood, Texas, and participated in exercises in Texas, California and Germany.

After leaving the military, Doug entered the real estate field and has twenty-two years experience as an Associate Broker, instructor and trainer. He has seen first hand the impact that political decisions can have on business, the real estate market and the economy. He also spent two and a half years with a major mortgage company, working with delinquent borrowers, and has seen the devastating results of lenders that manipulate government agencies with misleading statistics, with their customers paying the price.

Doug Barry is a Democrat. He was active in federal and state political campaigns in the 1990's, before spending much of the 2000's looking after family members. In June, 2007 he moved into the Medfield community in Baltimore City and later purchased his grandmother's home in Medfield. He has been active in the community, serving two terms as Treasurer for the Medfield Community Association from 2008 to 2010, one term as Vice-President from 2010 to 2011, and four more years as a general board member from 2011 to 2013, and 2016 to 2018. He attends church in Bolton Hill and works throughout the area.
